This first appeared on meltcast.com, and hopefully will appear in the future on the letters page of the best comic series on the stands.
This is my first time writing in to a letters page.
No really, it is. I’m sure a lot of people start their letters off like that, in hopes of catching the eye of the unlucky schlub who has to slog through loads of these things, but in this case, its actually true. I read a lot of comics with letter pages, and never once felt the need to write in. I kinda always felt like the people who had their letters in there either had better argued criticisms of the work or were more passionate about the story than I ever would be, so I left it to them.
But this is Scalped.
And Scalped ignites a fierceness, a loyalty, a fire in me that no other book can equal in its intensity. Its set its hooks in me from the first time I picked up the book, when I tried the first trade and was bowled over like a punch to the gut with its ending. I had to have more. I had to know what these characters would do next, what aspect of their personality or psyche would be revealed in the next issue, what thread would be followed up on, which wonderfully gray character might I meet next? I switched from trades to singles after finishing that volume because I had to have my fix every month, had to, no maybes, no hopefully, no buts, I had to have that book in my hands the day it came out, the minute I could get it. It has had a permanent place as the first book read every time it appears without fail, and I want to thank Jason, Will, R.M. and the other great artists who have contributed to what is the best comic on the stands, making sure that its always on time, and that its always great.
Because this junkie has to have his fix.
